Original Commentary

Just how hard is it to mod a Solitaire game to have.. um... photos of your choice? I honestly have no idea- which is why I left the brand of the OS ambiguous, along with the name of the Solitaire program- for all we know, it's some 15 year old cheap share ware version she got years ago because she liked how the little King winked at her- I don't know... but either way, ick. -Isabel

Modern Commentary
Nowadays, there are thousands of custom solitaire websites. I'm sure you could download a game and customize it with minimal expertise.

Back then? Probably a little more difficult. Probably. Especially if Ms. Taylor was particular about a specific solitaire program- Terrence

Original Commentary

I don't think we have ever seen the hallway of Robert's apartment before... and if we had, I've forgotten.

In the first panel, you see a building in the reflection of the buss' window. It is supposed to represent the outside of Robert's apartment complex, but it is in actuality the front door of Dahlia's father's house. Kind of puts everything in perspective. -Isabel

Modern Commentary
Does Robert have a car? I thought he had a car.

Well, he took the bus today. It's convenient and easy. Our fictional country has great public transit.

Also, I haven't received one of those "You may have already won" sweepstakes letters in years. I suppose that's because their gimmick was magazine subscriptions, which are less of a thing these days- Terrence

Original Commentary

At first I played around with the idea of closing the Nuggets' coffee shop due to failing a health inspection, but that would have Jane unemployed for... a long time, and it may be in part her fault. So I came up with the fridge.

The idea about Nuggets' failed inspection unfortunately mirrors real life a bit- the one and only time Terrence and I hit Fry's little sand witch shop that they have in the middle of the store... I saw a huge, icky cockroach in a glass food display. Needless to say we did NOT eat there and never will. Bleh. -Isabel

Modern Commentary
Jane is pretty much the only competent person at the Nuggets cafe. Sofia would be good at her job if she cared, but she doesn't.- Terrence

Original Commentary

We've seen... a bit more skin (eh... fur...) in this comic before, yes... but with Robert and Jane, it just didn't feel right to show very much of their bodies. I'm not sure if it's because of their weight or what... maybe because they seem so much younger and more innocent than Brisbane and Kimberly (and they are indeed younger than them), but I did what I do.

As for matters of love... I have no problems giving implications, but I don't think I would ever actually show anything within the comic... it would just push things too far. It's like that one show on saw on TV lately said about the movie Jaws (and I horribly paraphrase) "It was scarier because you didn't see the shark". So... showing nudity and sex would lead to... jumping the shark?

Ok I just had a horrible visual... carry on, people. -Isabel

Man, this comic sets things into motion... - Terrence

Jane

Original Commentary

So, how much does Robert make? A decent amount. The tech support department has one or two other people and Robert does a majority of the work. Jane makes tips in a retail environment, where people don't usually thinks about tipping. She makes less than she deserves. How much does Jake make? It varies from week to week and he doesn't discuss that with anyone - Terrence

Modern Commentary
That expression in panel 3... - Terrence

Original Commentary

Terrence really liked this arc, as it fits more with how he sees Jane... personally I'm not to fond with how this arc made Jane seem so... indecisive about her relationship with Robert. Ironically I was the one who wrote the arc... Terrence wanted there to be more of Jane's "wild style" shown within the comic, so I obliged... although who knows what consequences it will have for her in the end. -Isabel

Modern Commentary
Man, that was not just a silly little thought. That was not the way Robert was hoping this conversation would go at all.

I love how this comic ends, on the characters expressions.

Robert and Jane haven't been back together that long. I think that Robert sees Brisbane getting married and feels it may be time for him to settle down as well. And he feels bad about losing Jane the first time and wants to make sure it doesn't happen again.

Isabel did a much better job writing Jane than I did - Terrence
