Original Commentary

Does Caleb have a last name...? I don't think that's ever been established... well, he IS a performer. A lot of entertainers go by only one name... although I'm sure most of them actually HAVE last names. Well, Caleb is Caleb, take him or leave him. -Isabel

Modern Commentary
Caleb does not have a last name. I tried to give him one but nothing worked. He's just Caleb. It's not that he used to have one but decided to do the mononymous celebrity thing.

Dude just never had a last name. - Terrence

Original Commentary

Yes, Sofia is being very forward... she really has changed since her UM days. A little, at least. Is she just a big old skank? No, I really don't think so... she's far too complicated in her reasoning to be a skank. -Isabel

Modern Commentary
I've always wondered what happens if you give out a set of hotel keys and the other party just keeps them. Like, if Caleb got distracted or if his troupe left town or something. Would they re-key the lock?

He could mail them back or something, and I'm sure he'd be back in Demidown eventually but would the hotel be ok with a set of keys being in unknown hands for days or weeks after she checked out?

Nowadays, it's all done with keycards which can be re-programmed instantly for free, which is nice. - Terrence

Sofia
Wine
Caleb
Drinking

Original Commentary

First of... yes, Sofia is not supposed to be drinking. For an entirely different reason than the one I have not to drink. Sofia and Caleb are so like the Bizarro versions of Snickers and Twix. Ok, not really... I just felt inclined to say that - Isabel

Modern Commentary
Sofia knows there was a line to see Caleb. And he's the star of the show. It's been a few hours, but that's not unexpected.

But still, the waiting and wondering is hard on a person. It's not like he called ahead. Even if this were set in the present day, Caleb wouldn't have a cellphone - Terrence

Original Commentary

Haha Sofia is going to turn into a big lush. I should mention that Sofia doesn't "booze it up" that often... or ever, actually. I just love how that middle panel looks... to be saying something so positive only to be taking a big gulp of something-something at the same time. She looks so sad...

That whole last panel was just a throw back to Caleb as he was back in Unlike Minerva days... completely isolated from the outside world but extremely talented enough to take it on at his own pace. He's a bit more worldly now... and knows a bit (just a bit XD) more about the differences between men and women... not that it seems to be helping him any with them. -Isabel

Modern Commentary
Caleb's gimmick, back in the day, was that he didn't believe the outside world existed. He spent all his time in the theatre, performing.

He'd show up every few months and remind everyone what his deal was and they'd just be like "That's nice, Caleb. The grown-ups are talking now". Because everyone tried to talk him out of it once or twice, then gave up. Nobody had a reason to care enough to keep trying.

But he'd show up because I wanted to keep him in reserve in case I needed him. That wasn't a great idea but it helped me learn the adage "No work means no work" - Terrence

Drunk

Original Commentary

As that bottle gets emptier and emptier, Sofia's face gets redder and redder. For those of you who haven't read Unlike Minerva, Caleb always called Brisbane "Spike". The way Caleb saw it, it fit him better - Terrence and Isabel

Modern Commentary
The nickname "Spike" was pretty much the last remnant of Brisbane and Sofia being hedgehogs. Jack Benny's old bandleader, Phil Harris, used to call him "Jackson" so I figured Caleb ought to have a similar nickname for Brisbane. It's halfway between affectionate and derogatory. Like, Caleb isn't calling Brisbane that to be mean but he's not going to stop even if you ask.

I'm sure that Brisbane and Kimberly have mentioned Richard and Sinclair to Sofia, and Sofia was at least kinda paying attention. But they're not really top-of-her-mind right now.- Terrence

Original Commentary

So now we know why Sofia went all this way just to see Caleb... she wants some questions answered. Unfortunately I don't think she'll like the answers.

If you listened to the ND Chat from last Friday (4/13) you'll noticed that we talked a bit about Caleb... I don't entirely recall how into we went about Caleb's reasoning for going after Sofia back in the UM days... basically all he knew was that he wanted a woman, couldn't tell them apart too well from the men and figured Sofia was his best chance. We all can assume the situation left some emotional trauma for Caleb (well, more than what he had naturally), but it apparently left Sofia with a bit too. -Isabel

Modern Commentary
Caleb is charismatic, good-looking, and talented. He's also weird and incapable of holding a conversation that's not about himself.

He also obsesses about women who aren't interested in him and isn't aware enough to turn his focus onto a woman who was interested in him.

It would also surprise me if his manager didn't warn folks away from him. Or perhaps fire the ones who wouldn't take a hint.

Also, "rotten relationships"? We saw her pursuit of Dr Paul. Sofia has gotten up to some things offscreen, it seems. But not as many things as she'd like - Terrence
