Original Commentary
And now the fun can begin! As of last night, Unlike Minerva is now ten years old... even though it ended back in 2004, I think... it's still living on in one form or another. Terrence didn't mention what kind of smile Patrick had on his face, but he told me I pretty much got it spot on... which is actually a little scary. -Isabel
Just a little. I mean, I've shown a variety of characters waking up next to each other in different circumstances, but I think that spider-to-the-fly smile is the most adult thing to show up in the comic - Terrence Modern Commentary
Note that Patrick is playing Minesweeper in the third panel. The options for mobile games were limited in 2009; he doesn't strike me as an Angry Birds kinda guy.
Also, I love that middle panel. That is SO Patrick. He's a rival to Brisbane - not for Kimberly, but for corporate status. But if Kimberly were to suddenly become dissatisfied with Brisbane, he may try something.

Original Commentary
Here was the original script for this comic:
[K steps out of a taxi in front of the Apt. building.]
K: Just wait here ten minutes.
---
L: Hi, Kimberly - didn't expect to see you home so soon.
K: It's a long story. Did the mail come?
L: A few minutes ago. Why?
----
[Lola is alone]
L: Kimberly?
It was good... it set up the plot and all... but it felt a little empty. I was considering having Kimberly mutter something to the driver about his mother also using a meter- but, you know, Kimberly isn't that kind of gal. Or rather, she wouldn't be to anyone's face... unless she was at a meting, then all gloves are off. Not to mention that she is depending on this person being there when she gets back from the apartment, so it's best to just be nice. -Isabel Modern Commentary
I get a bit too caught up in showing every moment. We just had Kimberly say she was leaving the office to go to the apartment. Did we need to show her arriving at the apartment? I'm sure the readers could've figured it out...

Not a new background, sort of. The apartment's mail center was made just for each panel, although it would have been smart to have just made one background, if only for the third panel, since the other panels would have needed custom made backgrounds as it was. Ah well, live and learn, right? So what is in the envelope...? Only time will tell... sorry. ._. -Isabel Modern Commentary
Seriously, replace the first panel of this comic with the first panel of the last comic and there you go.

Original Commentary
Technically, Kimberly is referring to a Hot Dog on a stick (not sure if that's a copyrighted term or not... she's referring to hot dog, which just so happens to be on a stick), but it's been a long, long time since I've even been to a mall, let alone had any of this stapled mall food, so I just drew a corn dog. On a stick. Anyhow, note Patrick's evasion in panel three... he's sort of a free spirit, when he's not working. -Isabel Modern Commentary
This is a very Mr. and Ms. Taylor exchange, where there's a lot left unsaid. He doesn't need to say it's five minutes until the big meeting with the boss. She knows.
As I've almost certainly said before, Patrick is who Ms. Taylor had wanted Mr. Taylor to be.

Original Commentary
They're on their way to an important meeting. Not important to the plot, mind you, which is why no details are given. Patrick's lines were a bit difficult. They kept coming out as "They're the negatives to the photos that someone is blackmailing you with", which is a bit awkward - Terrence Modern Commentary
This would've been a great place to re-use the "Do NOT smile when you say that" line. I liked that line and wish I had gotten a bit more mileage out of it

I think the ultimate answer is "because I wanted a little buildup before jumping back into the Minerva Theatre Reunion arc". I wanted Kimberly's worrying to mean something to the audience, which is why I paired her with Patrick instead of Richard. He asks harder questions and jumps to different conclusions - Terrence Modern Commentary
Well, at least I got to switch the "What have you been out doing?" from two comics ago.
I like how Kimberly and Patrick play against each other.

Original Commentary
Oh man... this comic... all was going great till I noticed Kimberly's left arm was going at the wrong angle. I'm glad I noticed before it was too late... it's not perfect, but it's a lot better than where it started. I also had to enlarge the back of Brisbane's head in panel three... perspective is one of those things I'm not very good at. The "con" in panel four was added last minute, to help show that Brisbane's very familiar looking envelope is indeed what you think it is. -Isabel Modern Commentary
How did Brisbane find out about this? No idea. Maybe he read about it in the newspaper or something.
