Brisbane being smart?

Original Commentary

I had originally planned on Brisbane sneaking forward to the stairwell and hanging out there, just using the text chat to talk to his teammates. But I wasn't really specific in the scripts. It makes more sense that he'd come back - Terrence

Modern Commentary
Brisbane is just happy to find out that his character can do stuff. - Terrence

In this game, 100 hitpoints is low. You could take one or two hits, but the third would probably kill you. That's what I like about D&D numbers - five hitpoints is very definite and very easy to keep track of. 140 hitpoints in, say, a Final Fantasy game is about equivalent but if that character takes three or four hits, you have to add them up. It's a hassle. But video games breed large numbers, so they're in the high two-digit range (out of the high three-digit range, or mid four-digits in Rob_64's case). The line in the last panel was originally just "What was that?" but I wanted to make it clear that Silver_Blossom didn't just show up in the room with them - Terrence

Modern Commentary
Man, I hope Joy can reset her skill points after this. It'd be kind of a drag to put your new levels into something like this that's not going to be so useful outside of this one specific dungeon

But Joy is just having fun being part of this. Not many people get to do this quest and it would kinda suck if her friends failed it this close to the end - Terrence

Bunny Slime Dragon

Original Commentary

The script for this comic reads "They fight a dragon". It being a bunny slime dragon was Isabel's idea. Easier to draw that way, I believe - Terrence

If anything, it's a parody of the King Slime in Maple Story - Isabel

Modern Commentary
The best thing about working with Isabel is that I can just give her "They fight a dragon" and we get something like this. She's amazing to work with and this is much better than me trying to script out a whole boss fight - Terrence

I must have been sleepy... I accidentally put the red door in the third panel. ><

I was thinking of having the bunny ears automatically appear on Robert's character. But, that would have been just a tad bit silly (they would have appeared on top of his helmet- so no, you wouldn't have seen Robert's character's face anyhow. - Isabel

I was going to have it be the Red Wizard's Hat, but people would expect it to be like the Red Wizard in Final Fantasy I. It's a different Red Wizard. That's why Joy has a few levels of Blue Wizard - so there's less of a parallel there. Blue Wizard is more based on Magic: The Gathering - a mix of water, knowledge, and magic-support abilities. And no, Red Wizard isn't a playable class. The second hat idea I had was a Solar Hat. After the Solar Globe. Then I realized it'd make him look like a discount lightbulb. When Bunny Ears are the least silly thing on a list, go with them - Terrence

Modern Commentary
There should have been a "Congratulations, you completed the Divine Quest" kind of announcement.

I blame the FBAO team for not putting one in their game - Terrence

Original Commentary

Before finishing this one I made sure to ask Terrence if it was ok to show a red door, fortunately he did.

Kimberly poking fun at Brisbane over talking to girls on the Internet was the only joke I suggested for this story arc (that Terrence liked, that is).-Isabel

Kimberly's joke and Jake hitting on Joy were things that I'd been meaning to put in since the beginning. I intended to have Jake be more aggressive in that regard, but he didn't have any good chances to do so. Assume that he did so off-panel - Terrence

Modern Commentary
Note that Brisbane does not have a headset. This has all been going through is computer speakers. Kimberly's just been sitting there, listening to the drama - Terrence

Original Commentary

This was a fun arc to draw... I got to draw (a little) action, a little gore and a few nd.net references! This story arc loosely based on the Party Quests over at Maple Story (remember: Bera is our friend, love the Bera...), as was the original quest from the first Final Battle Adventure story arc over at nd.net.

I forget if I mentioned in back on the 17th, but I was thinking of adding a beefy arm to the neck of that dragon bunny (if you don't get the reference... you're missing out on a lot of life, man. Go watch Homestar Runner before you loose any more pop culture points).

Kimberly made that sandwich for herself about ten minutes ago... she just wanted to make Brisbane feel guilty for neglecting her. -Isabel

Grasscutter Sword? Yes, I've been reading Usagi Yojimbo. It is, technically, a Japanese mythological history reference, but Stan Sakai does such a good job with it. I was the whole Brisbane-designed-his-character-poorly-and-can't-use-swords thing for months, but the reference was too good to pass up - Terrence

Modern Commentary
So it's not a greatly consequential story, but it was fun to see inside the game system - Terrence
