After I showed Isabel the previous script, she mentioned that it'd seems a bit self-absorbed of Brisbane to expect to be remembered from a few letters after all these years. In all honesty, she's right. The guy's had a long career and worked with hundreds of people. Doesn't make it any easier on Brisbane, though - Terrence

Modern Commentary
I have to agree with Isabel on this. If you emailed me a few times ten years ago, I'd probably need to review my email or get a few hints. I'm not proud of that and I appreciate everyone who reached out to me. But it was very much a bigger deal to Brisbane than it was to Mike or his secretary - Terrence

Yes, that is the correct plural of passerby. The guy goes to college, y'know. There was a line about how he couldn't get a table inside, but that got cut because it wasn't really necessary. It's still true, though. You know how I was going to call that guy Victor Lastname? Well, I didn't, so we've got a comedy duo called Firstname Lastname. The amusing miscommunication, if you don't mind me explaining the joke, was that the banner has that guys first and last name on it instead of "Firstname Lastname" - Terrence

Modern Commentary
I had wanted to do more with Firstname Lastname. Not, like, have them get a TV show or whatever passes for mass popularity these days, but like a video of their goes viral and Brisbane sees it, or they headline a show at a local club. - Terrence

Terrence had describe Brisbane pulling headphones off- my first thought were the old fashioned type- but that really wouldn't work for all the animal types- Brisbane and Kimberly share a lot of things, but old fashioned headphones are not one of them. So I went with ear buds. -Isabel

Modern Commentary
It's got to be tough to sell comedy albums in a crowd like this. You can't just play them on a giant boombox without people complaining, but if you try to play it on your phone nobody will hear it.

Also, "flag down randos and let them listen to the first five minutes of your routine" isn't great either. - Terrence

The teacher in question? None other than Dr.James "Marvello" Smith, professor, advisor of the vaudeville club and former vaudeville star. Nice to see Brisbane and Kimberly aren't the only ones there who don't enjoy him. -Isabel

Modern Commentary
After this ran, Isabel told me that the two guys in Firstname Lastname are dating.

To which I say, good for them. Didn't come up in the comic because it's not part of their sales pitch.

I wish they had shown up again. I was going to have them reappear in an unrelated college reboot series. Not The NDU, but a different series that I had developed but never got released.

The basic outline there was that they had started the duo, broken up - romantically and professionally - and both had started a new Firstname Lastname with their current partners, and both Firstname Lastnames would become affiliated with different rival groups in the comic's main storyline - Terrence

Original Commentary
So, yeah. It's not that they're great. They're pretty good, at least at first listen. I was going to have a comic where he asks if they know who Brisbane Adams is, and they guess wrong. It got cut because it wasn't necessary, and because I wanted a positive end; there's been enough bad things happening to Brisbane this arc - Terrence

Modern Commentary
Sometimes you buy things at conventions because you might not ever get the chance again. Sometimes you buy them because you want to encourage whatever they're doing, which is kind of where Kimberly is at.

This is meant to be a kind of passing of the torch. Brisbane is out of the game. He's the paying audience instead of the desperate comedian. He can just enjoy the show and let the next generation worry about putting it on - Terrence

I had considered having Kimberly peek out in panel 3. Apart from that, there's not much else I can say about this - Terrence

Modern Commentary
Caleb made performing look easy. Then Brisbane came on stage and showed how difficult it really could be. I don't think he really got heckled. He didn't need heckling. Besides, sometimes silence is worse. - Terrence

This was one of the first parts I came up with. It was initially going to be bigger and more central, but I kept it because it's a nice callback to end things with - Terrence

I had once pitched a comic idea where Brisbane is dreaming about him and Kimberly doing a magic act on stage, like last month' wallpaper, but it was forgotten. Which kind of makes me sad, but this idea was a lot better. Hope everyone enjoyed this little blast from the past. -Isabel

Modern Commentary
This is a reference to Unlike Minerva-era Kimberly, who ran the booth at the theatre, sold everything, and flirted with Brisbane (who was never sure if she liked him or was just messing with him).

With things like this, I'm always torn between "the less you explain, the better it is for the people who know" and "You don't want a continuity lockout, limiting the punchline of the big storyline to people who read your previous webcomic ten years ago". - Terrence
