Original Commentary
In the first draft of this, the panel went a lot worse and Kimberly felt a lot worse about it. It wasn't until I started to draw on it did I realize just how painful that was to me personally. And while Terrence said he didn't base on it our experiences, it hurt all the same (don't try and rationalize with someone who's out of it, really). And, really, Kimberly is a fast thinking, fast talking person who thinks on her feet- it makes sense for her to turn a bad situation to her favor. -Isabel

Modern Commentary
And Kimberly is going to Kimberly. I fear I may be recapping Kimberly's old business a bit too much, but I worry that folks will miss context otherwise.

She's not ashamed of it, but it's a bit small-time and doesn't give her a lot of useful insight into how things are now - Terrence

Fight

Original Commentary
I had intended to have used Namir Deiter's old High School gym background for the concession/break area, but it just looked too... high schoolish. So it got dumped.

Terrence had originally mentioned Richard throwing a chair at Sinclair (and intentionally missed him), but he didn't like how it read and as such changed it. Personally I liked it (in fact, I had suggested that they walked past it and a chair being thrown barely misses Brisbane), but as it's his arc, Terrence has ultimate veto power. -Isabel

Modern Commentary
Who's Billy Donald? Just some guy. The Minerva Theatre had a lot of performers who didn't show up in the comic and he's one of them. Good at singing and smart enough not to get caught up in Brisbane's drama - Terrence

Narcissist

Original Commentary
I had suggested that Terrence show Brisbane and Kimberly at the actual event and looking at the photos, but he decided against it. I won't mention what was supposed to have happened in that comic, because I'm still hoping he'll use it, but I won't be too sad if he decides not to.-Isabel

Modern Commentary
I guess he's not as above-it-all as he thinks. But everybody likes to be remembered a little - Terrence

Caleb

Original Commentary
When I first envisioned this comic and pitched it around, I pictured Caleb being a bit sadder as it dawns on him that Sofia really didn't show up (I'm sure he thinks there more there than there really is... so basically their relationship hasn't changed in the least). -Isabel

Modern Commentary
Does Hippedown still have blimps? I mean, not really. It'd be cool if it did, but this is probably a novelty one-off thing. - Terrence

New Character

Michelle

Original Commentary
She was originally older, but I digitally removed the age lines after Terrence told me more about her - Isabel
I know I said I wasn't going to add Caleb's manager. Then I had some ideas and here she is. I initially had her putting on her glasses in panel 3, but there was some confusion about that and it didn't get drawn. I'm glad, because this way it's more clear that it's Caleb's error, not hers - Terrence

Modern Commentary
Of course she was originally drawn older. I had named her "Mildred" in the script. For context, that was a top-10 girls name from 1903 to 1926, so your typical Mildred would be elderly.

Anyhow, I like how Caleb's petulance gets across in the first panel.

"Can't tell men from women" was one of Caleb's character traits back in the day. I never really went much anywhere with it because I was just tossing stuff at the wall and seeing what happened; I didn't have much anything clever to say about gender so it fell by the wayside. I perhaps should have just let it be, but it came up again for this retrospective - Terrence

Original Commentary
And we explain who this woman is. I would've added it to the previous comic, except they both ran on the same day. Anyhow, she has explained time zones to Caleb several times and he just doesn't understand the concept. It probably took a lot of patience to explain phones to him - Terrence

Modern Commentary
Caleb does not have email. He doesn't have a cellphone or social media. His manager, Michelle, works hard to keep it that way. - Terrence

Original Commentary
Why? Because I wanted to make sure that if I introduced Caleb's agent/manager, I gave her a comic that said a lot about her. It's a bit of a speech, but I figure that this is what managing Caleb must be like. Isabel suggested the punchline, actually, before the comic was written. I just had to come up with an argument to go along with it - Terrence

Modern Commentary
If you had to manage Caleb, you'd be the same way.

I kinda wish I had more panels to work with here or that we'd started with this. It really gets across who she is and what she's about - Terrence
