Brisbane
Sandra
Angry

Original Commentary
There were a few alternate punchlines for this comic. One of them was
Sandra: This wasn't in job description I got either.
Another was:
Brisbane: How many cups has he had? Maybe after the third cup you should switch to decaf...
Sandra: Mind taking me back in time to this morning?
- Terrence

Modern Commentary
You know Sinclair was like "What's the point of going out to Starbucks [note to self: come up with a lightly fictionalized name for the fancy coffee chain] for just a black coffee? He deserves something better. I bet Patrick would be pleased that I upgraded him to a fancy coffee-tinged milkshake with three separate bonus flavors."

Patrick was, in fact, not pleased. - Terrence

Original Commentary
I made a few small changes to this comic, adding in a small "lame for normal people, witty for Sandra" joke to panel one, and changed Jane's line in panel three for reasons that will be shown later (but it's not a big deal, so don't over think it. ^_^;) -Isabel

Modern Commentary
The coffee maker is smoking, rather than steaming - Terrence

Original Commentary
Coffee machine and I just don't get along. Chances are if I use it, the thing will steam up. At first I was overly worried about it, till I realize it was just a need to clean the hot plate part of the machine. But if I did that, it would just steam more (and I would worry about getting water on the wires and causing it to blow up or something...). Usually I would just let it do it's thing till it steamed off anything there, then clean it later, or forget to so the next time it would do the same thing.

I get the feeling Sandra doesn't deal much with the things. -Isabel

Modern Commentary
I don't imagine that Sandra has made coffee before; she seems like a tea person. Or a get-your-coffee-at-the-coffeeshop person - Terrence

Jane
Copy
Sandra

Original Commentary
Because they each have their strengths and weaknesses. Copying machines are so easy. Except when they aren't. There's a copy machine at work and I have no idea how to use it. It keeps feeding from the top instead of copying what I put on the glass - Terrence

Modern Commentary
The thing about both coffeemakers and copiers is that they're at an awkward point for user interface. If you have a copier that literally just makes copies and has one button, that's amazing. But if it does eight things and has three buttons, it's going to be impossible to use six or seven of those functions. - Terrence

Jane
Irony
Sandra

Original Commentary
Why not just send it as a mass email? Perhaps there is an old policy demanding there be a hard copy of all memos... perhaps, because Robert has to do tech support for these people, he knows most of them don't know how to check their work email, so this way is just easier overall. -Isabel

Modern Commentary
In panel 2, Sandra has no idea who Robert is. Sandra just assumes that she ought to know and nods along. - Terrence

Original Commentary
A showing of comradery- or at the least, a joke between budding friends. I'm sure Jane doesn't want to explain the subtle, yet important, differences between a waitress and barista. Personally, I don't blame her. -Isabel

Modern Commentary
This is a nice beginning to their friendship. Help each other out, share a mutual secret. "Integrate Sandra in to the cast" was one of the items on our checklist, and the most successful and long-lasting one. - Terrence

Original Commentary
I actually went into this comic without a script. I had a general idea of what I was going to do and how many panels I wanted to draw. The script fell right out of it after I saw them in front of me.

The last week was half filler/half what I wanted to get into this arc. Terrence needed a week off of script writing and since this was the part I wanted in the arc, I decided to squeeze it in. -Isabel

Modern Commentary
I'm sure one of Sandra's uncles suggested she have business cards made because it's What Was Done back in his day.

This is probably the first one she's given out to someone outside her family. I had business cards made when I started doing comics, as a way to connect with fellow cartoonists and give them my URL. I gave out a few of them at conventions and such, but they weren't as useful as I would've hoped. - Terrence
