Kimberly
Brisbane

Excuse

Original Commentary

I like these kinds of comics, because I don't have to color Brisbane's glasses, which over time have gone from being a major pain to a mild nuisance. -Isabel

They moved into Kim's room because Kim wouldn't give up her room to Sofia. -Terrence

Modern Commentary
"Some Day" was meant as a reintroduction to the comic. Take a few weeks and show you how the comic moves. New year, new introduction.

It would be a great thing to put at the front of a book; that was the idea behind this storyline. If we had kept publishing books, I'm not sure where this would have been. I hope we would've made it work.

But that's why Kimberly is over-explaining things in that second panel there. - Terrence

Brisbane
Robe
Kimberly
Sofia

Original Commentary

The idea behind this arc (which I foresee lasting four weeks) was to spend one comic on each pair of characters. It didn't work exactly that way - the previous comic is Brisbane/Kimberly. This comic is a little of everyone. But I'd rather err on the side of better comics than on the side of experimentalism. -Terrence

Modern Commentary
I like the idea of one comic for each pair of characters. It's structure, and structure is how we turn blank paper into stories.

But it's also a difficult way to tell a coherent story and nobody reads these comics for the formalism. - Terrence

Sofia
Brisbane
Kimberly
Fight
Angry
Robe

Original Commentary

This is the Sofia/Kimberly comic, obviously. We haven't seen the two of them interact much since the Unlike Minerva days, but I foresee it being something like this. Which is why they haven't interacted much. That's why Brisbane doesn't have any lines, mind you. -Terrence

They moved into Kim's room because Kim wouldn't give up her room to Sofia. -Terrence

Modern Commentary
I wish I had done more with the transition between panels 2 and 3, but I love how Isabel laid the panels out. Sofia and Kimberly yelling at each other with Brisbane stuck in the middle. - Terrence

Getting Along
Robe

Original Commentary

I'm sure Kimberly's response would be the same if she were in Sofia's place. I'm sure Brisbane and Kimberly have had that conversation, only with Brisbane being nicer and less big-brotherly about it. I'm sure Brisbane and Sofia have had this conversation before, too - Terrence

Modern Commentary
Going through the script, I found this unused commentary:

Funny how the situations have changed. Brisbane is now a lot stronger as a person and Sofia has been worn down by the last year. It was a lot easier to write an authoritative-but-not mean Sofia to a dithering Brisbane than it is to write an authoritative-but-not mean Brisbane to an irresponsible Sofia. - Terrence

Old Habit
Sofia
Brisbane
Brent
Bite
GAH! TEETH!
OW!
Robe

Original Commentary

This, mind you, is the comic showing how Brisbane and Brent interact with each other, which is why Sofia doesn't have much to say. In all honesty, I pictured this comic's build-up as something like the courthouse scene in Ghostbusters 2. Except that in this case, the emotional outburst ends with a bite instead of with the Scoleri brothers - Terrence

Modern Commentary
He's not an attack brant. You can't really train them to guard things. However, if you talk sternly at Sofia, then Brent is probably going to do something about it.

If you talk sternly at Brent, he's probably going to ignore you.

But man, can't Sofia make a token effort to keep the peace? - Terrence

Original Commentary

I fricking swear... in a past life Brent was a Lounge Guy. No, joking, man. Little guy is a total creep-o. Last week Terrence and were talking about Brent and his relationship with the women in the apartment... I think he honestly sees Kimberly and Sofia as his woman and Brisbane as an evil interloper. The little guy is delusional, mind you... but that's Brent. -Isabel

Modern Commentary
Kimberly isn't holding Brent by the neck in panel 2. She's supporting the body with her other hand which is hidden by the speach bubble.

The stage instructions in panel 3 are "Brent looks cute". Isabel nailed it.

I don't think we explicitly planned a setup where the boys can't get along with the boys and the girls can't get along with the girls... - Terrence
