Original Commentary

Sofia is in an interesting quandary. She could leave Brisbane be, which she won't because it'd reflect badly on her to leave a problem unsolved. She could try to get Brisbane to be successful on his own, which isn't in her line of work. She could try to hook Brisbane up with another woman, but finding anybody else who meets her approval is difficult - the world is divided into those she tolerates and those she does not, with the former category being quite small. Or she could try to get Brisbane and Kimberly together. He could probably do worse and is less likely to resist - Terrence

Modern Commentary
"Charge in like Don Quixote" - Sofia does know that his charging was generally unsuccessful, right? You can't beat a windmill in a joust. - Terrence

Compromise

Original Commentary

Sofia has grown as a person too. The Sofia of Unlike Minerva would've arbitrated - both sides plead their case and she makes a final decision for both of them. Not that compromise is a practical solution; it's about respect and Brisbane has been compromising that for the longest time - Terrence

Modern Commentary
There are a lot of ways through this. "I don't care; you two figure it out and deal with it" isn't a bad option. - Terrence

Modern Commentary
Does Brisbane have $100? He just got a new "apartment"; that has to have taken a chunk of his savings, even with the state of things. - Terrence

Sofia

Original Commentary

Unrelatedly, we had originally planned for Brisbane and Kimberly to meet again on Christmas' Eve, both in comic chronology and actual time. That didn't happen, partially because the last two segments of this ran overtime and because Isabel got very sick near the end of 2005 (into the beginning of January 2006) - Terrence

Modern Commentary
"Brisbane wants to talk to Kimberly, but can't because he's so Brisbane" has always been his thing. Just this time it's drama instead of comedy. - Terrence

Brisbane
Sofia

Original Commentary

Brisbane's fear of humiliation has gone back to Unlike Minerva. It was an unreasonable fear, based on the assumption that a majority of the world is hostile instead of merely indifferent. It isn't any more. He's lost that bit of self-importance. UM-Brisbane would think that Kimberly was dating other people just to punish him. Current Brisbane believes that she's dating other people because she's gotten over - Terrence

Modern Commentary
We mentioned that the original plan had been for them to reconcile on Christmas Eve (instead of a month after). One of the other plans had been to keep them apart longer. Have them move on with their lives. Make people wonder if they ever would get back together.

We were afraid the readers would riot. - Terrence

Mental Milestone
Well look who sacked up.

Original Commentary

We considered doing this a few different ways - Brisbane deciding to wait longer, or Sofia and Brisbane going together. Waiting further would allow for more personal growth, but we decided the plot needed to move forward. There wasn't anything pressing to do that involved them being separated. Switching to a B-plot involving other characters would be gratuitous - Terrence

Modern Commentary
The other advantage of Sofia not coming along is that she doesn't find out this is about sex. Sofia doesn't want to know anything about her brother's sex life and vice versa. - Terrence
