Original Commentary
We had considered having this be a bonus comic, but decided against it. We're doing a week of one-shots while I hammer out the Taylor family history - Terrence
Modern Commentary
Yeah, this could have been a NamirDeiter.net bonus comic. We've got a few one-shots in that archive.
This is a bit more Unlike Minerva than You Say it First and would have made more sense with Kimberly's first job, but things are in a bit of a transitional period and it's a cute joke.

Original Commentary
That's why Lola got the place wired, actually. To share pictures and videos of wrestlers with her friends. Not pictures of her grandchildren. I mean, her friends have their own grandchildren to look at. We had planned on mentioning this back when they got Internet access during The Golden Age of Wireless, but it got pushed back. About six months, apparently. Modern Commentary
Initially, the plan was having Lola leer at muscular young men in their skimpy, skimpy trunks.
As things evolved, she ended up being more of a ring mom.
Either way, doesn't mean she can't enjoy the magazines. - Terrence Wednesday, March 23rd 2005 - [252]A Brief Distraction (3 of 6)
Original Commentary
Originally, there was a story arc involving Robert just sitting there, but I decided it'd be better as a one-shot comic. And the lady mentioned is Jane, who showed up a little while ago - Terrence
Modern Commentary
I think that the point of this was to re-introduce a plot point that hadn't been mentioned in a month or two. Nothing wrong with reiteration. Repetition shows what's important.
I dont like repeating myself, but sometimes we needed to be a bit better about reinforcing plot points.

Original Commentary
I don't know how Kimberly tells them apart. In the original script, Richard and Sinclair's roles were reversed, even. Maybe the comic takes place in Richard's office - Terrence
Modern Commentary
One of the running jokes, going forward, will be how Kimberly can't tell Richard and Sinclair apart. Well, we'll get there.
They're visually identical. Brisbane and Sandra can tell them apart. Kimberly, Patrick, and Emily can't. I think of it mostly as a test of emotional intelligence.

Original Commentary
Isabel came up with yesterday's strip and told it to me. This is my reaction to it. We do this sometimes; one of us comes up with a gag and the other one comes up with a variation on it. This is one of the first times we were able to use both - Terrence
Modern Commentary
Yeah, this is how our creative process works sometimes. We switch each other's gags.- Terrence Sunday, March 27th 2005 - [255]A Brief Distraction (6 of 6)
Original Commentary
I went through a whole bunch of ideas involving chocolate and rabbits. None of them were really very good. Then Isabel came up with this, which I believe to be based on some of the more intricate eggs we've seen. I think it's brilliant - Terrence
Modern Commentary
The background to this is probably that Brisbane saw a documentary about these kind of ornate eggs and was very enthusiastic about it for the last week. It's practically all he's been talking about.
Meanwhile, Kimberly had a lot of free time at work and figured that if she could make him happy for the price of a few eggs, some wax, and food dye...
Of course, for Brisbane it's not about having the egg or eating the egg. It's about the idea of creating the art.
He has no idea what to do with the egg itself.- Terrence
