Valid Arguments

Original Commentary
Kimberly doesn't abide by society's #1 rule... money can fix any problem.

Modern Commentary
Is Kimberly's job within walking distance? I mean, everywhere is within walking distance if you have the time, as Steven Wright said.
"Brisbane tries to talk Kimberly into getting a car" is a recurring thing. Considering that they just got hit for internet fees, it makes sense that Kimberly doesn't want to add another bill to the pile. Really not sure they could afford it.
Re-reading this, a bicycle seems like it would be a good option. Cheaper than a car, but faster than walking. - Terrence

Original Commentary
In the color version of this, Kimberly's nose was a bit red. Not because she was drunk, but because she was getting sick... but we had to shuffle scripts around and her getting sick got pushed back, so her nose was red in vain.

Modern Commentary
So these original comments - they're from the (out of print) You Say it First books, which were printed in black and white, at least until the beginning of year 3, when we started NamirDeiter.net, which features daily commentary for our comics.
Also, both Brisbane and Kimberly are starting work a lot later than I would've expected. I think I was working decidedly odd hours at the time we wrote this- Terrence

Original Commentary
The girl just doesn't know when to quit, does she?

Modern Commentary
Emily is Kimberly's best friend and she's not going to let anybody - especially Kimberly - tell her otherwise. - Terrence

Original Commentary
Kimberly really knew how to pick them, didn't she?

Modern Commentary
Yep. Dude was dating high-school Kimberly, came over to her apartment, and decided that stealing a land-line phone was his best move.
Teenage boys are weird, y'know?

I'm going to say that Larry occupies that grey zone between "ex" and "guy I hung out with a couple times" and, therefore, it wasn't a major violation of the various unwritten rules for Emily to date him. That's why she's angry that Emily ignored her warnings, rather than just angry that EMily dated him at all.
But Emily probably figured that if Kimberly saw something in him, he might be an alright guy. Emily was wrong. - Terrence

Original Commentary
Looks like Kimberly hit a sore spot on poor little Emily.

Modern Commentary
We do not see Rod in the comic. I'm not 100% sure if Rod is real or, if he is real, if he knows that he's taking Emily out. I don't think we had any plans for him; we just put it out there in case our future selves could make something of it. Six months later, Emily is dating David, though.
Maybe they went on a few dates, realized they weren't right for each other and moved on like mature adults. Or maybe Emily started dating David to make Rod jealous and accidentally got into a long-term relationship.
I'm also not sure what engineering would even do in terms of a chemical research company. - Terrence
