Original Commentary

Sofia was talking to Brent... just about herself.

My original goal was to write a story arc about Brent and Kimberly, but once again, when I started to write, a story about Brent and Sofia surfaced instead. More on this and the original idea as more time passes (can't really go into it much without giving things away). -Isabel

Modern Commentary
You're in luck! It's an Isabel storyline!

One of the reasons why the comic has multiple couples is that this way I can work on a Robert and Jane storyline while Isabel works on a Sofia and Dr. Paul storyline and we don't need to worry about stepping on each others' plots

Do brants have claws? I think they do. I'm pretty sure they've been shown to have toe beans. And even if they haven't been directly referenced, the idea is too cute to pass up - Terrence

Originally, the assistant was going to roll her eyes at Sofia, but it'd be difficult to position the characters to make that possible. So just imagine an eye roll there if you like - Terrence

Modern Commentary
"The vet". She means Dr. Paul. There are other vetrinarians who work there, I'm sure. But as far as Sofia is concerned, there's just the one.

The assistant has been doing this long enough to knows what Sofia means - Terrence

The nurse isn't a mouse, although her coloring makes her look like one (Terrence chose her colors and when things get tight for time, I just go with what he chooses- which can be a crap shoot sometimes, we both admit). She's actually a bear. A very cynical bear at that. I don't know why, but I really like bears and thus usually like the bear characters we have. -Isabel

Modern Commentary
Does Sofia have an appointment? Probably not. One of the many reasons that Nuggets can't keep staff is that they keep messing with everyone's schedule.

Besides, isn't it more romantic if they just happen to bump into each other? - Terrence

Original Commentary

While I didn't mean for all these comics to be listed one after the other on the main page, this comic and the last really work a lot better when read one after the other. I really hope it would have worked otherwise.

Terrence did a bit of research on the average vet's pay; they make about 72k a year, which is good, but not great, especially for a doctor. The nurse assumes Sofia is after the doctor's money, but Sofia isn't dumb and can probably smell the money off a man (and thus, knows what she's getting into). -Isabel

Modern Commentary
I'm not sure what the average wage for veterinarians is nowadays. There's a lot of variance in the numbers I'm seeing and there's going to be a difference between a takes-care-of-pets veterinarian, a zoo veterinarian, and a farm animal veterinarian. And differences between running your own practice and working for a veterinary chain. - Terrence

Dr. Paul

Original Commentary

...And finally, the man of the hour, Dr. Paul. I've been dealing with a lot of doctors as of late due to getting all my problems fixed and have found that most doctors that aren't general practitioners are generally funny people. Excluding gynecologists. There's nothing funny about their work. -Isabel

Modern Commentary
Ironically, my own doctor was a Dr. Paul at the time. The character wasn't named after him. Just a few months after we created the character, we got regular health insurance and had to choose a physician.

The list we got just had a dozen names on it. We didn't meet the doctors or know anything useful about them. So choosing one who shared a name with one of our characters was just as valid as any other reason.

Dr. Paul (the doctor) was a good doctor so that worked out well enough - Terrence

The shelves were from Dr. Ferdinand's (Joy's ex-boyfriend) old practice. He wasn't using it, so we liquidated his stuff. I'd feel sorry for Dr.F, but I don't.

Brent came out so... so Brent in these comics. It's been a while since he's looked like himself.

I should mention that not only does Dr. Paul (his street name will be Dr.P for lack of a better name) work full time at the vet's, but he also volunteers at the local animal shelter. Hey, Dr. P., if Sofia doesn't work for you, I know a gal who would fit you just fine. -Isabel

Modern Commentary
Brent doesn't speak English or anything but animals can understand tone. He knows what the vet means when he says "whole wheat toast" and Brent doesn't like any of that - Terrence
