Original Commentary

The warehouse guy reminds me a bit of Caleb, at least in his attitude towards Brisbane. I don't want this arc to just be scene after scene of Brisbane being wrong about things, but I liked this - Brisbane had some suggestions that seemed like good ideas, and is getting shut down because for practical reasons. This is the kind of thing Brisbane would do if he were in charge - Terrence

Modern Commentary
Al has few pleasures in life. Explaining how his shipping department works is one of them. Telling the boss's son-in-law why he's wrong is the other.- Terrence

Kimberly
Meeting

Original Commentary

Kimberly looks more like a little girl playing house than a grown woman preparing for a meting. She's completely into this and more than likely a little "outside the moment" still... like the idea hasn't fully hit her yet... or maybe it has and she's having the time of her life. Either way, she looks quite content in the role as "mother to the company". -Isabel

Modern Commentary
And transitional comic!- Terrence

Meeting

Original Commentary

Ms. Taylor seems like the type to turn heat off in empty rooms. And notice if anybody moves her chair. Not that Kimberly has a bad idea - if she's going to pretend to be the Ms. Taylor who runs Lemon Technology, she may as well have the office - Terrence

Modern Commentary
I'm sure Brisbane had a plan to get things set up in a conference room and that would've taken an hour. And they really don't have an hour.

Ms. Taylor's office has the trappings of power. It looks like where decisions are made, and that's got to help with negotiations. And they need all the help they can get- Terrence

Original Commentary

No, they wouldn't send a salesman to buy a company. I just wanted to illustrate that this raises as many questions as it answers - Terrence

Modern Commentary
I should said "buy our company" in the third panel for extra clarity.

Ah well. I'm sure you understand where I was going with this. - Terrence

Kimberly
Lunch

Original Commentary

In the orignal outline, "they order lunch" lasted about four comics. It didn't accomplish much, lasted too long, and wasn't all that amusing. Anyhow, this was a reference to this comic, in which it is revealed that Brisbane has no idea how to expense lunch. He still doesn't. In the original draft, Patrick ordered lunch for himself, just as a counterpoint to Brisbane - Terrence

Modern Commentary
Kimberly really ought to have a company card, as head of sales and marketing. The company should be covering travel, lunches with clients, and a variety of other things.

She doesn't and ends up paying for things out of pocket that she really shouldn't. Everybody on the sales team who knew how expense accounts work got fired. Nobody told Richard or Sinclair how to expense things (or if they did, they weren't listening), and they told Kimberly that this was just How Things Were.

Ms. Taylor has not been motivated to fix this situation. - Terrence

Original Commentary

In the original version, Kimberly took off her jacket after the guy from the warehouse arrived. Then Brisbane got offended and territorial, in a way that was rather unlike him. He was upset that Kimberly would take off her jacket with another guy around. The overall effect was kinda sweet in a dorky neanderthal kind of way. It really wasn't Brisbane, though. This whole bit was inspired by one of the recent ND Chats, and Isabel talking about how Brisbane wouldn't let Kimberly wear a bikini to the beach - Terrence

Also, originally Kimberly used the word "more" in the fourth panel when referring to her clothing at the beach. At the time I was honestly not sure if this was a typo or one of those sayings that I'm too dense to not know (such as "Dirty Pool", which I had once thought as one heck of a weird typo). But, no, it was just that- a typo. So now Kimberly can run around in her two piece and not a parka at the beach, and only Brisbane will suffer from it. -Isabel

Modern Commentary
They ordered something quick and cheap because they've got a full schedule and they're paying for it themselves.

Maybe they'll talk to the accounting department later, but probably not.

Anyhow, I like this joke. It's one of my favorites, especially since you don't need context to understand it. A lot of my stuff is funnier if you know who all the folks are, which is less optimal in the new, faster world of social media- Terrence
