Original Commentary

Kimberly looks good in purple, I'll give her that... unfortunately this is 1. A very vague, set-upish comic and 2. The first in the arc... those are always hard to write about.

Brisbane leaves for work an hour earlier than Kimberly but gets home an hour earlier than her as well... unless Miz Taylor has some crazy long task for him to take care of- then he gets home when he gets home. He usually tries to call Kimberly on those kinds of days, at the least. -Isabel

Modern Commentary
It's an establishing comic! You can tell its a new day because Kimberly is in a different outfit. - Terrence

Original Commentary

So, what was Brisbane doing late at work? That's a good question. Probably delivering a late batch of mail or calling people for Miz Taylor. Or just sitting at his desk to show her 6 PM appointment in. Eventually, we may go more into what Brisbane actually does at the office. But not today - Terrence

Modern Commentary
Would Ms Taylor make Brisbane stay late just to mess up Kimberly's plans and show her who's boss?

Yeah, probably. - Terrence

Original Commentary

I was going mention it being Wednesday, but I decided that it made more sense for them to notice that they had no groceries on Monday. Why didn't they notice that the numbers don't match the days of the week? Or that it's last year's calendar? Brisbane's just not that observant sometimes - Isabel

Modern Commentary
As a reminder, that's the 2006 chore calendar and this comic originally ran in the middle of 2007. And that's not one of those 18-month calendars.

No wonder Sofia was able to get away with skipping the grocery shopping and maybe pocketing the money.- Terrence

Brisbane

Original Commentary

So finally he notices... poor Brisbane- work must really be throwing him for a loop... something which I can understand... this conversation sound familiar, doesn't it? Makes a person wonder just how often those two actually eat in. I'm sure Kimberly wants them to eat at home more often than they do- but usually caves in to Brisbane's whining about going out on dates (and their lack of cooking skills). Although of the two, I'd say Brisbane was the better cook. -Isabel

Modern Commentary
Of course he checks the freezer first. It's late. They're both hungry now. He's hoping they have something frozen he can just heat up and not have to cook.

But also, they don't have anything in the fridge either. That's been one of my favorite running gags - when things get even a little hectic, Brisbane and Kimberly are entirely incapable of keeping food in the house in any usable combination - Terrence

Original Commentary

The backgrounds to these recent comics should look familiar to some of you. Don't worry... eventually you'll see different foods stocked in the back... eventually. But not now.

Yes, Kimberly found out about just where that money came from to fund the fiasco in the previous story arc... and she's not happy. She actually didn't know that the money came from them back when the previous arc was going on- I'm sure if she had, she would not have been as light-hearted as she was. -Isabel

Modern Commentary
So, what happened to the food they were supposed to have at the picnic?

Hopefully it got brought to the company breakroom and the employees took it. Brisbane and Kimberly don't have a car, so they couldn't bring too much of it home.

By the time they got done with work, most of the food was already gone, anyhow.

I'm sure Kimberly tried to talk the caterers into dropping the food off at their apartment, to no avail. - Terrence

Original Commentary

That's a problem we keep having... we never go to the store when we're not hungry- only when hungry- it's how the stores get poor saps like Terrence and myself- of course we're cutting down on the crap now that we kind of have to, but every now and then we do get things we should not- as Brisbane and Kimberly are.

They are still kind of sore at each other, by the way... another thing you shouldn't be when you are grocery shopping. -Isabel

Modern Commentary
Yeah, Kimberly isn't just about the grocery list. It's that Brisbane spent a huge chunk of money on his failed picnic and maybe she doesn't want to buy him fancy treats right now. He blew a lot of his snack money on that - Terrence
