Brisbane's comments are of course actually in reference to his relationship with Kimberly back in the Unlike Minerva days... it's like one of those things where when you're looking for something (in Brisbane's case, how Kimberly back then felt about him) you can't find it no matter what. But not looking for something it shows up right in front of you (in this case, the realization that Kimberly did in fact have feelings for him back then).-Isabel Modern Commentary
I kinda wish we had less Unlike Minerva lore. I mean, this is a sequel but it shouldn't be required reading. There's enough to do to read You Say it First in its entirety.

Brisbane's thought was added at the last minute. It gives the comic a little extra kick - Terrence Modern Commentary
I'm sure that this was what Robert had originally intended to ask before getting sidetracked.

The interesting thing about this arc is it could've just as easily been told from Jane's perspective instead of Robert's. About how she knew her boyfriend wouldn't be able to decide on something and how she'd have to subtly steer him in the right direction. Why a diamond necklace? Maybe she figured that if he got her something really fancy, he'd feel like he'd made up for the past and he'd stop being such so indecisive. Or she just liked how it looked on her. Either way - Terrence Modern Commentary
I'm sure Robert and Jane have their own friend group, separate from Brisbane and company. We just never see them.
