Original Commentary
This is half an hour before they open, for those of you keeping score at home - Terrence
Modern Commentary
Sofia stayed at home worrying then took Brent out on the first bus. She didn't wander the streets all night looking for a veterinarian.
But like she said, she wouldn't be able to sleep with Brent hurt like that - Terrence

Original Commentary
Does the vet look familiar? He should. Isabel suggested we bring him back; he's got personality like that. He's got a name now; hopefully we'll work it into the comic soon - Terrence Modern Commentary
Doctor Paul is named after a Faine Jade song. I've had both a doctor and a veterinarian by that name since then

 Wednesday, April 19th 2006 - [568]Doctor, Doctor (9 of 12)
Original Commentary
So just who does the veterinarian remind Sofia of? I'm sure those of you who read Unlike Minerva may have at least one poor joke-telling person in mind... those of you who don't... well, consider reading (or re-reading) Unlike Minerva, because the answer in You Say it First is a long time coming - Isabel Modern Commentary
In the original commentary, we're talking about Brisbane. If you haven't read Unlike Minerva (and I'm ambivalent about recommending it), that's exactly the kind of joke he'd try to tell...
- Terrence
 Thursday, April 20th 2006 - [569]Doctor, Doctor (10 of 12)
Original Commentary
I'm sure the real reason Brent is so pissed is because they gave him a pink Elizabethan collar. Now how is he going to keep up with street cred with his friends?
Dr. Paul's not-so witty remark in the third panel was (an intentionally) lame last minute add-on... I think it really makes the comic, personally. That and Brent's pretty pink collar. -Isabel Modern Commentary
You know Brent would want a black collar with flames painted on the side.
- Terrence
 Friday, April 21st 2006 - [570]Doctor, Doctor (11 of 12)
Original Commentary
I really dig the way Brent looks there, in the collar, in the cage, so pissed off. Dr. Paul is named after a song by Faine Jade - I knew I'd work a reference in somewhere. It's about a doctor who works for free if people can't afford it. Isabel wrote these comics without ever having heard the song. It's funny how things work out sometimes - Terrence
Modern Commentary
And now we get to the point of this whole thing - to get Sofia and Dr. Paul to interact with each other.
I like how that worked out. We just came up with a weird guy and found a place to use him. That's worked out better than (for example) David, who was slotted in as Brisbane's friend and Emily's boyfriend, but we never really found a good role for.
And the box says "I'm going home!" which is a nice touch. As you recall, he was carried over in Sofia's arms so he's being "upgraded" to a cardboard pet carrier.
They're meant for newly adopted pets but, well, he's going home at least
- Terrence
 Sunday, April 23rd 2006 - [571]Doctor, Doctor (12 of 12)
Original Commentary
In the original script, Sofia was implying, well, certain things, a lot more than the final draft... Sofia is more than likely simply trying to get a free fancy dinner out of Dr. Paul than anything some of the people might be thinking of.
Here is a perfect example of the whole "shoes are only worn when really needed". You don't know what kind of cooties are left behind in the wash down room (where all the animals who come into the shelter are decootied). -Isabel
