I'm going to say that Larry occupies that grey zone between "ex" and "guy I hung out with a couple times" and, therefore, it wasn't a major violation of the various unwritten rules for Emily to date him. That's why she's angry that Emily ignored her warnings, rather than just angry that EMily dated him at all.
