Another one of those "See it then write it" comics, where I visualize what the characters are doing and how their feeling before writing the words in their mouths.

This is more or less your average date between Brisbane and Kimberly (the whole staying home, not spending money, just watching a movie thing; not the whole "come to my room to talk while all dressed up" part). - Isabel

Modern Commentary
What makes it a date-night in instead of a regular night together? The intention. It's special because they think of it as special.

More special than Brisbane is expecting...

Unrelatedly, I really like the from-inside-the-microwave view in the first panel.- Terrence

Original Commentary

I know... today's comic is a bit PG-13, as will be the rest of this arc. Fortunately (or unfortunately) all it stays at is PG-13. I really enjoy this comic; how it looks, the tense feeling it has, almost to the point where you're a little uncomfortable because you're not quite sure what's going to happen... at least, that's the basics of what I hope the comic makes the reader feel. If it does even a fourth of all that to the reader's feelings, then I'd be happy. But with my luck, it didn't.

Modern Commentary
Yes, Kimberly is dressed up in a way that Brisbane isn't because Kimberly had plans for this evening and Brisbane didn't. She has some ideas about what she wants to happen tonight...

She's blushing. She's a little shy when things get serious. - Terrence

Isabel added the "but how much do we really know about each other" line in the second panel at the last minute, because Brisbane's answer is a non sequitur without it. Instead, it's an evasion which is very characteristic of him. He's got this real naive charm to him; I really like the way this comic came out - Terrence

Modern Commentary
I wish that we had made it a bit more clear why they're both so hesitant. Right now, their lives are in a delicate balance. If something were to go wrong in their relationship and upset that balance, it might cost them their jobs, their home, and/or their best friend.

But more on that later...- Terrence

So how slowly have things been going between Brisbane and Kimberly? Good question. The comic has been going on for a year and a half, but I don't think 20 months would have passed before they had this talk. So I assume that time is fluid unless otherwise specified. I feel this way about the comics I read and I assume that most readers probably feel this way too. But it's something I worry myself over sometimes and really shouldn't - Terrence

Modern Commentary
The comic reads a bit faster in seven-day-a-week reruns; this has been going on for about fourteen months, where this was around month 20 of the original run. - Terrence
