I had considered writing an arc developing Kimberly's business contacts, as far back as during Unlike Minerva. It never happened for a variety of reasons. Mainly, they didn't need to be there. I had written up an ex-boyfriend/business contact who she owed money to. He didn't fit into the main storyline, so his character was never developed further than "an ex-boyfriend/business contact who she owed money to", so he wasn't even in the running to be introduced - Terrence

Modern Commentary
Kimberly wants friends but doesn't want to meet people or maintain existing friendships. That's why she's here hanging out with her landlady/mother-figure.

But that's the difference. Brisbane makes friends at work. Kimberly makes work friends.- Terrence
