Monday, August 7th 2006 - [650]The troublesome trouble of Ms. Taylor (42 of 64)
Original Commentary
Kimberly is, of course, outside the room that those two are inside. I spent a while trying to figure a way to work that into the dialogue before I decided to just have an open door. There's a real tension between Dan and Ms. Thompson there - it's even more obvious in the full-size version - Terrence
Modern Commentary
Nowadays, Kimberly would have just texted. As it is, I'm pretty sure she's just leaving a voicemail.
- Terrence Tuesday, August 8th 2006 - [651]The troublesome trouble of Ms. Taylor (43 of 64)
Original Commentary
Originally, Mr. Taylor's introduction line was "I don't believe my vote has been counted yet". That lasted thirty seconds before I realized how lame it was. I mean, it seems like something a superhero would say if he were Civics-Man and being written by a middle-schooler. He's been mentioned for three years now but never appeared in person. I needed to give him something better than that - Terrence
We're talking a lot about Mr. and Ms. Taylor's current relationship and how it will affect this arc. I want to start writing the next arc, but I can't until Terrence finishes this one. And a picture of Mr. Taylor was shown a while back in Old Photographs - Isabel Modern Commentary
You see those two guys in green shirts in the first panel? The ones obscured by Kimberly's ears and the panel border? Minor shareholders. That's all that they get.
Kinda sad, considering the whole story hinges on Dan getting them to agree with him about the direction of the company - Terrence Wednesday, August 9th 2006 - [652]The troublesome trouble of Ms. Taylor (44 of 64)
Original Commentary
In the first draft, Ms. Taylor called Brisbane "Brisbane". Glad I caught that. And I really like Ms. Taylor's line, "We're discussing business". It's just so dismissive, as if Brisbane were a small child who had no business at the grown-up table - Terrence
Modern Commentary
I hadn't seen Arrested Development, but Ms Taylor and Lucille Bluth come from a similar archetype. Then again, a lot of people didn't see Arrested Development during the original run...
- Terrence Thursday, August 10th 2006 - [653]The troublesome trouble of Ms. Taylor (45 of 64)
Original Commentary
This is the reason the previous comic had so few lines - I wrote Ms. Taylor's speech before I finished the previous comic. It would only be used at the beginning of a comic, so I had to end the previous comic where I did. I was thinking of cutting that line so I could change the pacing of the last comic, but I liked it too much. I didn't originally intend for this to be a showcase of the interactions of the Taylor family, but it works very well - Terrence
Modern Commentary
Now, Mr. Taylor isn't exactly a friend to Brisbane, but their interests align. Or at least, Mr. Taylor wants Brisbane to think their interests might align if things go right - Terrence Friday, August 11th 2006 - [654]The troublesome trouble of Ms. Taylor (46 of 64)
Original Commentary
Originally, Mr. Taylor was going to reply "What's the matter?" in the first panel but that was far too flippant. His original line in the last panel was "Let's the three of us discuss this in private". But because he switched subjects so quickly, Isabel drew him angrier than I was planning. So I adjusted the line to something more forceful - Terrence
Modern Commentary
More minor shareholders! I told you they exist! - Terrence Sunday, August 13th 2006 - [655]The troublesome trouble of Ms. Taylor (47 of 64)
Original Commentary
Isabel has been helping me a lot with this arc, especially the last week or so. She wrote this comic, actually. And while I was at work, she called me and asked if she could add another panel at the beginning. Anyhow, my main input was deciding this should be a Sunday so we could add more panels, give it a little more action, no pun intended - Terrence Modern Commentary
Neither Mr. nor Ms. Taylor are going to change. I'm not sure they're capable of changing at this point, even if they wanted to.
